Karen Sohie

Working as Soka, Karen Sohie creates turned-wood lamps that combine craftsmanship, natural material and warm light.

Under the name Soka, Karen Sohie has developed a practice around woodturning. Her current focus is on lamps, which she sees not simply as functional objects but as carriers of atmosphere, calm and material presence.

Each piece of wood brings its own grain, irregularities and character. Sohie allows those qualities to guide the turning process so that every object remains individual. When illuminated, the wood and light interact to create a warm presence. The slow rhythm of turning also forms an important part of the work, connecting craft, nature and attentive making.
