Judith Langerôme explores portraits, landscapes and human stories through figurative painting, colour and light, informed by her documentary filmmaking practice.
Judith Langerôme is a visual artist and documentary filmmaker based in Chastre, Belgium. Trained at the Beaux-Arts in Namur, she brings painting, moving image and storytelling together in a practice shaped by observation, light and human emotion.
Artist statement
Judith's paintings centre on portraits and landscapes. Working primarily in oil on wood and watercolour on paper, she explores the expressive possibilities of colour, the changing qualities of light and the emotion conveyed through a subject's presence or gaze.
Inspired in part by Impressionist approaches, her figurative work seeks to capture more than a likeness: an atmosphere, a moment or an emotional resonance. Her documentary filmmaking also informs her artistic perspective, including a series of paintings exploring the resilience, courage and strength of women in West Africa.
