Hugo De Winter

Hugo De Winter creates acrylic paintings shaped by colour, imagination and a long-standing fascination with modern masters.

Hugo De Winter works primarily with acrylic paint. Creativity has always been part of his life through music, drawing, painting, writing and making, but painting became a particular passion after discovering the work of Joan Miró in 1992.

He is also inspired by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. For De Winter, painting is a form of travel across a blank surface: sometimes the destination is clear, and sometimes the work leads somewhere unexpected. Since 2015 he has continued developing his acrylic practice at the Vrije Academie Gent.
