Marc De Ridder's contemporary visual work begins with objects and forms that feel familiar, then introduces a shift that changes how they are read. His practice is concerned with loosening established layers of meaning and drawing attention to how quickly we stop looking carefully at the world around us.
He treats looking as a form of play. Once attention has been captured, further associations can emerge, opening a space for wonder, poetry and imagination. Works such as The Tree of Life invite the viewer to move beyond immediate recognition and enter a more contemplative world.
